Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures Series Special Package

The Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures series kicks off its 2019-20 series in September, and the season looks to be a great one, with a line-up of world renowned authors, journalists and thinkers.  

The Mansions on Fifth Hotel is proud to offer an overnight package for each lecture.  Your package includes:

  • An overnight in either a Mansions Deluxe King or Standard Queen guestroom for one or two people;
  • One or two tickets to the lecture;
  • Uber service to and from the Carnegie Music Hall;
  • Two vouchers for a glass of wine, beer or well cocktail of your choice at our fabulous Oak Room;
  • One autographed copy of each author’s most recent book.

Package rates:  Deluxe King:  $359 (double occupancy); $299 (single occupancy). 

Standard Queen:  $339 (double occupancy); $279 (single occupancy).

Here is the line-up of speakers for 2019/ 2020:

September 23:  Sigrid Nunez, author of The Friend. 

October 14:  Ibrahm X. Kenzi, author of How to be an Antiracist. 

October 28:  Doris Kearns Goodwin, award winning creator of, among other works, Team of Rivals, the book upon which the Stephen Spielberg film Lincoln was based. 

November 11:  Madeline Miller, who has most recently penned Circe, a re-telling of the Odyssey from a feminist perspective. 

November 25:  Reza Aslam, author of God:  A Human History. 

December 9:  A National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize winner, Richard Powers’ new book is    The Overstory, a fable which takes the reader from pre Civil War New York City to the timber wars of the Great Northwest. 

January 20:  Carmen Maria Machado, creator of the memoir/ rumination on queer domestic violence, In the Dream House. 

February 10:  Tommy Orange, who’s debut novel  There, There explores the lives of twelve Native Americans who are traveling to the Big Oakland Powwow. 

March 9:  Esi Edugyan, author of Washington Black, an epic tale of a boy born into slavery who rises up and becomes a man of the world.   

April 6:  Michael Ondaatje, whose novel The English Patient was made into a Best Picture Oscar winner.  His newest novel is Warlight, a story of intrigue, violence and desire set in London the decade after the close of WWII.     

Please note:  Package rates are exclusive of state and Allegheny County hotel taxes; accommodations may be in either the Mansions’ Fifth Avenue House or Amberson House; Ten Evenings tickets are subject to availability, and the ticket price portion of the package is not refundable once the reservation is made in the event of cancellation.  Guests will be issued a gift voucher for the book which is redeemable at the lecture hall.
