Environmental Stewardship

Driven by the passion of Richard Pearson, the Mansions were saved. And together with a team of committed Pittsburghers, the ultimate act of sustainability was achieved the restoration of an historic, one-of-a-kind jewel. At the Mansions on Fifth, environmental stewardship is not just about labels like “green”, but is a thread that unites every aspect of both restoration and service at this luxury hotel. Grounded in a commitment to the environment, the Mansions does business by creating an earth-friendly environment for our guests.

Construction teams reused every possible original material including the terrace stones, granite, woodwork and even the original studs and staircase. The restoration included the use of natural and sustainable materials including low VOC paints, natural stains and environmentally friendly products. The “sandblasting” process used on roof sheathing and walls used corn husks, which are gentle and natural.

Operational sustainability continues our commitment. Respect and conservation form the basis of the way we do business, whether in energy, the foods we serve, the products we use or offer. Our staff has undertaken stringent standards for water and utility conservation and we balance a towel and linen reuse policy with the specific desires of our guests.

The majority of our furnishings, products and food are sourced within 500 miles to support the regional economy.
